Excellence as a source of growth
10% annual growth for 20 years! This is a powerful indicator of the health of Brittany’s digital industry, particularly in Rennes. Here, there is a surprising number of start-ups as well as large industrial establishments, especially around the Rennes Atalante technological centre: Orange, Technicolor, Canon Alcatel Lucent, Thales and more.
The 50,000 ICT jobs base makes Brittany the second region nationwide, with the capacity to produce R & D and innovation opening the doors to its expertise, hardware and software wide to the world. Indeed Brittany seeks to become a global reference in three areas of excellence: 3D images, fixed and mobile networks, and the future internet.

Innovation
The first global video satellite broadcast in 1962, developed by Digital PBX in 1970, MP3 in 1995, HD Wireless in 2006; digital Brittany boasts a plethora of innovations. This is the fruit of a tightly woven fabric of public and private laboratories, with 15,000 researchers, working in particular on wireless technologies, digital television, information systems security, telecommunications, software technology, and innovative uses of web.
The INRIA, Irisa and IETR-CNRS laboratories are naturally networked with those of the major groups and the best prestigious schools: Telecom Bretagne, ENSSAT, INSA, ENIB SUPELEC, ENS Cachan, ESAT, ISEN and others.

B-com, Images & Réseaux, French Tech: shining labels
While Brittany ranks among the best in Europe for ICT, several labels are furthering its reputation. Since 2005, the globally orientated Media and Networks, cluster is focused on new information technologies, telecommunications and audiovisual.
Since 2012, Brittany also hosts the IRT B-com, one of the eight Technological Research Institutes certified by the French State, working to innovate in hypermedia, ultra broadband networks and e-health. Finally, in 2015, Rennes and Saint-Malo was one of nine French territories to earn the demanding French Tech label.
